YLDP Update April 2025

April was a whirlwind month for our Youth Leadership Development Program (YLDP) participants as they worked hard to finalize both their Jr. Business Projects and Community Action initiatives.

We kicked off the month with a fun milestone. Students received their YLDP T-shirts, proudly displaying the logo they designed themselves. Great job to everyone involved in bringing that creative vision to life!

The Jr. Business Plan project wrapped up under the guidance of Tia Mahr. Each team presented their business concepts, complete with a pitch, logo, and full plan. Congratulations to Marcus and Te’yonte for taking home the top honors!

As part of their Community Service Learning program, students visited Motherland Community Gardens, lending a hand in preparing garden beds for spring planting. It was a meaningful way to give back and learn about food sustainability.

They also got the chance to share their talents in the kitchen by baking treats for the community at Intricate Minds. While there, Tiara Standage gave an insightful lesson on harm reduction, reminding us all of the importance of education and empathy. We encourage everyone to learn more about the incredible work being done at Intricate Minds.

Girls Glory had a few of the YLDP youth help out with the monthly complimentary braiding service. The kiddos looked fresh and fabulous!

This month’s enrichment session featured a peaceful and grounding activity—A Moment with Yai, who led the group through a relaxing yoga experience.

We also said a warm (and sweet) goodbye to our amazing site mentor, Olivia. Her last day with us was celebrated with cake, smiles, and lots of gratitude. Olivia has been a guiding presence at all three of our sites, and we’re so thankful for her dedication, energy, and care. She’ll be greatly missed!

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our generous dinner providers for the month. Your support helps fuel our students through long evenings of learning and leadership. We appreciate you!

With only a couple of weeks left in the YLDP year, we’re proud of how far our young leaders have come and excited to see how they finish strong!
