Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2026 Back to School Brunch!

It was a wonderful morning celebrating the people, stories, and moments that have shaped Compass for Kids. One of those stories belongs to Alejandra.

Through years in Club Compass, Camp Compass, and our Youth Leadership Program, Alejandra has grown in confidence and discovered an interest in nursing. The social-emotional learning woven into Compass programs has helped her build the skills to speak up, connect with others, and take on new challenges.

When Barbara, a retired nurse and friend of Compass, heard about Alejandra’s dream to become a nurse, she offered to share her experience. Soon, the two were leading a first aid lesson for younger Club Compass students. With Barbara beside her, Alejandra stepped into a leadership role and shared what she was learning.

It was a glimpse of what can happen when a young person gains confidence, and a community helps her explore what’s possible.

We are happy to announce that we hit our event fundraising goal of $50,000!

However, Club Compass is now underway for the school year, and it takes a lot of funding to make it all happen. We would like to share a special request with you from Bala Ramaraju, one of our amazing Board members.

A Look Back at the Celebration

This year’s Back to School Brunch was filled with so many memorable moments! Guests enjoyed a brunch buffet, live music, a silent auction, and the Compass Marketplace. During the program, Rev. Julia Melgreen shared the origin story of Compass, which she reminisced began with a cup of coffee and a conversation. Compass for Kids Founder & Chief Executive Officer Molly Berendt Grogan reflected on what inspired her to start Compass and what lies ahead for the organization. Compass for Kids Board Member Bala Ramaraju shared her personal story and experience with Compass for Kids, and we celebrated the successes of several Compass kids and alumni.

Most meaningful of all, we were grateful to welcome several of the Compass kids and families whose stories were highlighted during the program. Their presence made our celebration even more special and reminded us why this work matters.

We also extend a heartfelt thank-you to our board members, staff, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and everyone who helped bring the event together. We could not have done it without you!
